58A-6.0151. Specialized Alzheimer's Services Adult Day Care Center Training Requirements

  • 1(1) The following terms are defined in Section 9429.918, F.S., 11and are applicable to this rule section: ADRD Participant, Dementia, Specialized Alzheimer’s Services, and Therapeutic Activity.

    27(2) 28Within three months of employment, 33all Staff in Direct Contact with ADRD Participants and all Staff Providing Direct Care for ADRD Participants at a Center designated as a Specialized Alzheimer’s services adult day care center pursuant to Section 66429.918, F.S., 68and hired on or after July 1, 2012, 76must obtain four hours of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders training pursuant to subsection 9058A-6.015(1), 91F.A.C.

    92(3) 93Within six months of employment, 98all Staff Providing Direct Care for ADRD Participants at a Center designated as a Specialized Alzheimer’s services adult day care center pursuant to Section 122429.918, F.S., 124and hired on or after July 1, 2012, 132must obtain an additional four hours of dementia-specific training approved by the Department. 145The curriculum for the additional four hours of training must address the following subject areas as they apply to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders:

    169a. Understanding brain disease;

    173b. Normal brain functions and normal aging;

    180c. Understanding treatable and irreversible dementia;

    186d. Mental status tests;

    190e. Communication and the effects of damage to brain cells;

    200f. Influences on behavior and brain deterioration;

    207g. Interventions;

    209h. Physical causes and pain indications;

    215i. Com217mon Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders medications and side effects;

    227j. Malnutrition and dehydration;

    231k. Activities of daily living ‒ routines and schedules;

    240l. Validation therapy;

    243m. Safety ‒ new and proven technologies;

    250n. Caregiver stress management ‒ physical, emotional, and financial; burden tests.

    261(4) All training providers and their curricula must be approved by the Department or its designee pursuant to Rule 28058A-6.016, 281F.A.C., prior to the commencement of training activities pursuant to this 292rule.

    293(5) All Staff Providing Direct Care for ADRD Participants shall participate in four hours of continuing education annually in topics related to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

    320(6) All training required by this rule and Section 329429.918, F.S., 331must be completed only once for each applicable employee.
