59A-5.002. Definitions

  • 1In addition to definitions contained in Chapters 395, Part I and 408, Part II, F.S. the following definitions shall apply specifically to ambulatory surgical centers.

    26(1) “Administrator” means a person who is delegated the responsibility of carrying out the policies and programs established by the governing board.

    48(2) “Agency” means the Agency for Health Care Administration.

    57(3) “Anesthesiologist” means a person currently licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy pursuant to Chapter 458 or 459, F.S., and who has completed an approved residency in the field of anesthesiology.

    88(4) “Anesthesiologist Assistant” means a person currently licensed pursuant to Chapter 458 or 459, F.S. as an anesthesiologist assistant.

    107(5) “Center” means an ambulatory surgical center.

    114(6) “Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists” means a person currently licensed and certified pursuant to Chapter 464, F.S, and certified by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.

    141(7) “Dentist” means a person currently licensed to practice dentistry pursuant to Chapter 466, F.S.

    156(8) “F.A.C.” means the Florida Administrative Code.

    163(9) “Governing board” means an individual owner, partnership, corporation or other legally established authority in whom the ultimate authority and responsibility for management of the ambulatory surgical center is vested.

    193(10) “Licensed Practical Nurse” means a person currently licensed as defined in Section 206464.003(16), F.S.

    208(11) “Operating room” means a room designated and equipped for performing surgical operations that requires a restricted environment.

    226(12) “Operating room technician” means a person with specialized training in operation room techniques and considered by the governing board qualified to serve as part of the operating room staff.

    256(13) “Medical Staff” means a formal organization of physicians, dentists, podiatrists, or other health professionals, who are appointed by the governing board to attend patients within the ambulatory surgical center.

    286(14) “Patient” means a person admitted to the ambulatory surgical center.

    297(15) “Pharmacist” means a person currently licensed pursuant to Chapter 465, F.S.

    309(16) “Physician” means a person currently licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy pursuant to Chapter 458 or 459, F.S.

    328(17) “Podiatrist” means a person currently licensed to practice podiatric medicine pursuant to Chapter 461, F.S.

    344(18) “Procedure Room” means a room designated for the performance of special procedures that do not require a restricted environment but may use sterile instruments or equipment.

    371(19) “Recovery Bed” means an accommodation with support services used for post-operative recovery in an ambulatory surgical center.

    389(20) “Registered Professional Nurse” means a person currently licensed as defined in Section 402464.003(22), F.S.
