5C-26.005. Testing Requirements and Exceptions

  • 1(1) Chronic Wasting Disease Test. No test is presently required for importation. To date there is no approved live animal test to detect CWD in cervidae. A positive diagnosis is based on postmortem brain testing at a laboratory certified by USDA for CWD testing. When an approved live animal test is available, a negative test will be required for importation.

    61(2) Tuberculosis Test.

    64(a) Cervidae from an Accredited Tuberculosis-Free Herd as defined in the United States Department of Agriculture, Uniform Methods and Rules, Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication, Effective January 22, 1999. No test is required for cervidae which originate from an Accredited Tuberculosis-Free Herd program that is accepted by FDACS. The statement of herd status shall be recorded on the OCVI accompanying the cervidae.

    124(b) Cervidae not known to be affected with or exposed to tuberculosis may be imported if they:

    1411. Are under one (1) month of age, or

    1502. Originate from a herd which has been classified negative to an official tuberculosis test of all eligible animals conducted within the past twelve (12) months, and the animals to be imported have been classified negative to an official tuberculosis test, conducted within ninety (90) days prior to importation, or

    2003. Have been classified negative to two (2) official tuberculosis tests conducted not less than ninety (90) days apart; the second test was conducted within ninety (90) days prior to importation; and the animals were isolated from all other members of the herd during the testing period.

    247(c) The tuberculosis test results must be recorded on the OCVI accompanying the cervidae.

    261(3) Brucellosis Test.

    264(a) Cervidae from an Accredited Brucellosis-Free Herd as defined in the United States Department of Agriculture, Uniform Methods and Rules, Brucellosis in Cervidae, Effective September 30, 1998. No test is required for cervidae which originate from an Accredited Brucellosis-Free Herd program that is accepted by FDACS. The statement of herd status shall be recorded on the OCVI accompanying the cervidae.

    324(b) Cervidae not known to be affected with or exposed to brucellosis may be imported if they:

    3411. Are less than one (1) month of age, or

    3512. Have a negative official brucellosis test conducted within ninety (90) days prior to importation.

    366(c) The brucellosis test results shall be recorded on the OCVI accompanying the cervidae.
