5E-3.011. Sterilization of Anthrax-producing Organisms in Certain Products

  • 1(1) No bone meal, blood meal, meat meal, meat scrap, digester tankage, meat meal tankage, or feeding tankage shall be sold, offered for sale or used in commercial feed in the State of Florida, unless such products have been so sterilized by heat as to destroy all anthrax organisms and their spores.

    53(2) For the purposes of this section, sterilization shall be considered adequate if each and every part of the product has been exposed to steam under at least 250º F. for 30 minutes or dry heating at a temperature of at least 284º F. for not less than 3 hours or the equivalent thereof, provided that all parts of the material reach the temperature as above indicated. Such products mentioned in subsection (1) shall not be distributed in a manner as to cause recontamination with anthrax organisms or their spores.

    143(3) When such products mentioned in subsection (1) are distributed to dealers in Florida they shall be accompanied by a statement guaranteeing compliance with the requirements of subsection (1) and (2).
