61G14-16.001. Vessel Movements Requiring a State Pilot

  • 1(1) Vessels requiring licensed state pilots or certificated deputy pilots are specified in Section 15310.141, F.S.

    17(2) Docking master is a person affiliated with or working for the company providing assist tugs who holds a valid first class Federal pilot license for the waters involved and who possesses knowledge of local facilities including the tides, currents and capabilities of assisting tugs and who has experience in berthing vessels at those facilities.

    72(3) When the movements of a vessel are under the direction and control of persons other than a state pilot or deputy pilot, as permitted by Section 99310.141(2), 100Florida Statutes, such control must have been clearly passed from the state pilot or deputy pilot and when such control is being relinquished by such persons there must be a clear passing of such control to the state pilot or deputy pilot. Passage of any such control may be accomplished only when the parties thereto are present on the bridge of such vessel.

    163(4) Nothing contained in this rule shall be construed to infringe upon the authority of the Master to relieve a pilot whenever the Master considers such action necessary to avoid immediate danger and insure the safety of his vessel.
