61G15-33.006. Design of Alarm, Control, and Signaling Systems

Effective on Monday, December 4, 2017
  • 1(1) 2Alarm, 3control, 4and 5signaling systems include motor control systems, emergency alarm circuits, activation of life safety system controls and remote signaling of emergency conditions (See Rule 2861G15-32.008, 29F.A.C., for Fire Alarm Systems), surveillance and access control systems, temperature control, and systems related to energy conservation and facility management systems51. 52Items to be considered in the design or analysis of alarm, control, and signaling systems include: cabling requirements; installation requirements; performance requirements; and interoperability. The design documents shall be based on standards set forth in NFPA 72, the Florida Building Code, the Florida Fire Prevention Code, or as required by the local authority having jurisdiction. The Florida Building Code and the Florida Fire Prevention Code are incorporated by reference in Rule 12361G15-18.011, 124F.A.C.

125(2) The Electrical Engineering Documents for alarm, 132control, 133and signaling systems 136must include the following information, if applicable to the particular project147:

148(a) Description of the control system functions, or a functional diagram.

    159(b) Equipment legend.

    162(c) System riser diagram.

166(d) Cabling and conductor types and requirements.

173(e) Installation, identification and testing requirements.

    179(f) Back-up power.

182(g) Location and characteristics of surge protective devices, 190if included in the engineering design196.

197(h) Details and requirements indicated by Rule 20461G15-32.008, 205F.A.C.

206(i) Complete requirements for operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, system documentation, and instruction of Owner’s operating personnel, as needed to operate the systems as intended over time.
