62-555.322. Prohibition on Use of Lead Pipe, Solder, and Flux  


Effective on Thursday, August 28, 2003
  • 1(1) As of January 18, 1989, any pipe, pipe fitting, solder, and flux that is used in the construction, alteration, or repair of any public water system shall be lead free as defined in subsection (2) below, and as of August 28, 2003, any plumbing fitting or fixture that is intended to dispense water for human consumption and that is used in the construction, alteration, or repair of any public water system shall be lead free as defined in subsection (2) below. This subsection shall not apply to leaded joints necessary for the repair of cast iron pipes.

    99(2) The phrase “lead free” shall mean:

    106(a) When used with respect to solder and flux, solder and flux containing not more than 0.2 percent lead;

    125(b) When used with respect to pipe and pipe fittings, pipe and pipe fittings containing not more than 8.0 percent lead; and

    147(c) When used with respect to plumbing fittings and fixtures intended to dispense water for human consumption, plumbing fittings and fixtures in compliance with Section 9 of NSF International Standard 61 as adopted in Rule 18262-555.335, 183F.A.C.
