64B14-5.005. Mandatory Courses

  • 1(1) Mandatory courses consist of the following:

    8(a) One hour on Chapters 456, 468, Art. XIV, F.S., and rule Division 64B14, F.A.C.; and,

    24(b) One hour relating to the prevention of medical errors, which shall include a study of root cause analysis, error reduction and prevention, patient safety and medical records training; and,

    54(c) One hour on infection disease control, including HIV/AIDS.

    63(2) With the exception of the infectious disease control course, mandatory courses shall be designed and developed specifically for the fields of Orthotics and Prosthetics.

    88(3) Mandatory courses may be used for multiple registrations, examinations or initial license applications and for license renewal, if they are used within two years of the date the courses were completed. The prevention of medical errors course set forth in paragraph (1)(b), shall be required as part of the initial issuance and biennial renewal process.

    144(4) Mandatory courses set forth in paragraphs (1)(a), (b) and (c), must be individually approved by the Board and such approval shall not be delegated.

    169(5) To be considered for approval, each mandatory course must meet the requirements set forth in Rule 18664B14-5.003, 187F.A.C., and must:

    190(a) Be submitted for review at least 90 days prior to the initial course offering:

    205(b) Be resubmitted for review and renewal every biennium;

    214(c) Be authored and presented by individual(s) knowledgeable in the course material and the field of orthotics and prosthetics;

    233(d) Contain the name of the author, the author’s credentials demonstrating expertise and knowledge, the original date of authorship, and the date last reviewed and/or modified; and,

    260(e) Be submitted to the Board by an approved continuing education provider.
