64B15-7.005. Anesthesiologist Assistant Protocols and Performance

  • 1(1) Every anesthesiologist or group of anesthesiologists, upon entering into a supervisory relationship with an anesthesiologist assistant must file with the Board a written protocol, to include, at a minimum, the criteria set forth in Section 37459.023(2)(b), F.S.

    39(2) Anesthesiologist assistants may perform duties set forth in Section 49459.023(3)(a), F.S., 51under the direct supervision of an anesthesiologist and as set forth in the protocol required by subsection (1) above. The protocol shall be set forth on form DH-MQA 1090, entitled “Anesthesiologist Assistant Protocol,” ( Rev. 4/16), which is hereby incorporated by reference and available from 97http://www.flrules.org/Gateway/reference.asp?No=Ref-07281 99or 100from the Board’s website at http://flboardofmedicine.gov/licensing/anesthesiologist-assistant-licensure/106.

    107(3) The supervising anesthesiologist shall delegate only tasks and procedures to the anesthesiologist assistant which are within the supervising physician’s scope of practice. The anesthesiologist assistant may work in any setting that is within the scope of practice of the supervising anesthesiologist’s practice. The supervising anesthesiologist may supervise up to four (4) anesthesiologist assistants.

    161(4) Continuity of supervision in practice settings requires the anesthesiologist assistant to document in the anesthesia record any change in supervisor.

    182(5) All tasks and procedures performed by the anesthesiologist assistant must be documented in the appropriate medical record.
