64B24-7.006. Preparation for Home Delivery  


Effective on Wednesday, September 11, 2002
  • 1(1) For home births, the licensed midwife shall:

    9(a) Encourage each patient to have medical care available by a health care practitioner experienced in obstetrics throughout the prenatal, intrapartal and postpartal periods, and

    34(b) Make a home visit by 36 weeks of pregnancy. The licensed midwife shall ensure that the setting in which the infant is to be delivered is safe, clean and conducive to the establishment and maintenance of health.

    72(2) The midwife shall prepare or cause to be prepared the following facilities to be used for delivery:

    90(a) The area used for labor shall be cleaned, well lighted, well ventilated and close to the toilet.

    108(b) The delivery area should be large enough to allow ample work space and provide privacy.

    124(c) The delivery area must be organized, well lighted, clean, free from drafts and insects, near handwashing facilities and clear of unnecessary furnishings.

    147(d) A safe, clean sleeping arrangement for the infant.

    156(3) The midwife shall instruct the expectant parents and ensure that appropriate supplies are on hand for use by the mother and infant at the time of delivery and early postpartum.

    187(4) The midwife shall have the following equipment and supplies clean and ready for use at delivery:

    204(a) Sterile obstetrical pack.

    208(b) Bulb syringe.

    211(c) Oxygen.

    213(d) Eye prophylaxis pursuant to Section 219383.04, F.S.
