64B5-17.014. Removal of Amalgam Fillings  


Effective on Monday, October 21, 2002
  • 1(1) The Board of Dentistry has determined that claims regarding amalgam fillings as a causal factor in systemic illnesses are not supported by the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Public Health Service, or the National Institutes of Health. The Board therefore deems that the removal of amalgam fillings for the purported purpose of curing or preventing systemic illness constitutes alternative or complementary health care. In compliance with Section 70456.41, F.S., 72any dentist performing such alternative or complementary health care treatment shall inform the patient of the following:

    89(a) The nature of the treatment and the benefits and risks associated with the treatment; and

    105(b) The dentist’s education, experience and credentials regarding the complementary or alternative treatment option.

    119(2) Each dentist shall indicate on the patient’s record the method(s) by which the requirements of Section 136456.41, F.S., 138were met.
