    11B-35.002Basic Recruit Training Programs for Law Enforcement, Correctional, and Correctional Probation

    NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on January 14, 2016, the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission received a petition for a temporary waiver of paragraph 11B-35.002(2)(a), F.A.C. Jeffrey T. Beasley, Inspector General, Florida Department of Corrections on behalf of Eric Sewell. Petitioner wishes to permanently waive that portion of the rule that states: Within four years of the beginning date of a Commission-approved Basic Recruit Training Program, an individual shall successfully complete the program, achieve a passing score on the applicable State Officer Certification Examination (SOCE) pursuant to Rule 11B-30.0062, F.A.C., and gain employment and certification as an officer. Petitioner states Eric Sewell applied for employment with the DOC in September 2015 and was given an offer of conditional employment. Petitioner states that Mr. Sewell’s four-year window to gain employment ran out on January 9, 2015. Petitioner states that Mr. Sewell is a highly qualified candidate and would be an asset to the DOC. Petitioner states that Mr. Sewell will suffer a significant financial impact if the waiver is not granted. Petitioner states that the purpose of Section 943.17, F.S. will be achieved if the waiver is granted.
