    State of Florida Historic Preservation Training Initiative Grants Formal Solicitation – February 1, 2011 – April 4, 2011 for

    Fiscal Year 2011-2012

    The Florida Department of State announces that it is currently soliciting applications for 2012 Preserve America State of Florida Historic Preservation Training Initiative grant assistance for historic preservation training projects.

    The solicitation period begins February 1, 2011, and ends on April 4, 2011. Applications must be submitted in hard copy and will be available for download and printing at: www.flheritage.com/grants beginning February 1, 2011. The application and application attachments must be delivered to the Bureau of Historic Preservation, R. A. Gray Building, 500 South Bronough Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0250, no later than 5:00 p.m., April 4, 2011, OR clearly postmarked on or before 11:59 p.m., April 4, 2011, OR show evidence of submission to an express mail service on or before 11:59 p.m., April 4, 2011.

    FUNDS AVAILABLE

    Funding is based upon a $200,000 Preserve America federal grant awarded to the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources by the National Park Service on August 1, 2010. The grant award stipulates that the $200,000 in funding be disbursed as subgrants to designated Florida municipalities and counties or federally-recognized tribal communities to provide historic preservation training. Applicants may request funding up to $20,000. A match equivalent to the grant award (1:1) is required of all applicants.

    WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY

    Eligibility is limited to designated Florida municipalities and counties and federally-recognized tribal communities. Municipalities and counties with the following designations are eligible to apply:

    ·         Preserve America Communities or any local government that has received such National Park Service certification by April 4, 2011

    ·         Certified Local Governments or any local government that has received such National Park Service certification by April 4, 2011*

    ·         Florida Scenic Highway Communities*

    ·         Florida Waterfronts Communities*

    ·         Florida Main Street Communities*

    *Prior to the end of the grant period, Non-Preserve America Community grantees are required to apply for Preserve America Community designation as a condition of the grant award. Visit www.preserveamerica.gov/communities.html for designation information.
