    DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL REGULATION

    NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on November 29, 2005, Bureau of Elevator Safety issued an Order Granting Variance Requests in response to a petition filed on September 20, 2005 and advertised in FAW Vol. 31, No. 41, by Rick Dayton of Otis Elevator regarding Seacrest Condominium (VW2005-142). The petition sought waivers from Rules 101.1a (2), 101.1a (3), 101.6, 212.1, and 212.9a, 4 of ASME A17.1, 1996 Edition with 1997 Addenda, as adopted by Rule 61C-5.001, F.A.C. The petitioner requested to not have a machine room and to use coated steel belts in lieu of steel cables suspending the car. The petitions were granted as it was demonstrated that this new technology provided an equivalent or greater level of safety.
