PURPOSE AND EFFECT: To update provisions in the rule due to statutory changes and to add clarifying language. Proposed changes include modification of processes and requirements for initial and continued program approval of teacher preparation programs. This includes modifications to the Uniform Core Curricula and updating minimum requirements for preservice field experiences.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Updating the Uniform Core Curricula for teacher preparation programs, revising criteria for continued program approval, allowing continued approval based upon a review by a nationally recognized accrediting entity, authorizing rulemaking authority to determine program review requirements based upon program size, and requiring a minimum number of hours of preservice field experience before serving as the teacher of record.
