11B-27.002: Certification, Employment or Appointment, Reactivation, and Terminating Employment or Appointment of OfficersNOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT on October 7, 2008, the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, has issued an order.
The order grants the petition for waiver of subsection 11B-27.002(4), F.A.C., requested by St. Petersburg Police Department and Mr. Christopher Dixon. The rule requires Petitioner Dixon to become employed within four years of beginning basic recruit training. The Petitioner’s request to be permitted to become certified despite being over the four-year limit was granted upon consideration of all of the evidence presented. The Commission found that the strict application of the rule to the Petitioner’s case would violate the principles of fairness and cause substantial hardship to Petitioner Dixon, the St. Petersburg Police Department, and the St. Petersburg community. The Petitioner was granted seven months from the date of this order to complete the employment process with the St. Petersburg Police Department.
