    The Florida Public Service Commission announces a public hearing in the following docket to which all persons are invited.

    DATE AND TIME: Wednesday, December 9, 2009, 6:00 p.m.

    PLACE: Gainesville City Hall, City Commission Auditorium, 200 East University Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32601

    GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: Docket No. 090451-EI – Joint petition to determine need for Gainesville Renewable Energy Center in Alachua County, by Gainesville Regional Utilities and Gainesville Renewable Energy Center, LLC. In determining the need for the project, the Commission must take into account the need for electric system reliability and integrity, the need for fuel diversity and supply reliability, the need for adequate electricity at a reasonable cost, whether the proposed plant is the most cost-effective alternative available, and whether any renewable energy sources and technologies or conservation measures taken by or reasonably available to GRU and GREC might mitigate the need for the plant. The purpose of this hearing is to provide the customers of GRU and other interested persons an opportunity to provide public testimony regarding the need for the proposed renewable energy electrical power plant. Separate hearings may be held before the Division of Administrative Hearings at a later date to consider environmental and other impacts of the proposed plant.
