    UCF - 598 Arecibo Observatory Cable Replacement

    NOTICE TO CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS

    The University of Central Florida, announces that services in the disciplines of construction management will be required for the project listed below:

    Project No.: UCF - 598

    Project and Location: Arecibo Observatory Cable Replacement.  Arecibo Observatory Route 625 Bo Esperanza Arecibo, PR 00612

    The project consists of the replacement of a 3” diameter stranded cable at roughly 700-foot length, one of nine cables on the Arecibo telescope, located in Puerto Rico. The project will be managed in its entirety by the Construction Manager, including (but not limited to) the sourcing of a replacement cable, purchase, delivery, and install – including all temporary shoring, craning, and/or rigging required to complete the work.  The anticipated window of construction activities is between December and June, due to hurricane season.

    The total project cost will be approximately $3,000,000 for planning, design, permitting, construction, commissioning, and furnishings/equipment. The project budget may be changed at UCF’s discretion, and this project is subject to the availability of funding.

    The contract for construction management services will consist of two phases:

    Phase one is pre-construction services - the Construction Manager will be compensated a flat fee of $30,000.  Phase one services includes site visits as required, value engineering, constructability analyses, development of a total project cost estimate, research on material sourcing and logistics, and the development of a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposal at 100% Construction Documents for the delivery of the entire project scope. If the GMP is accepted, phase two, the construction phase, will be implemented.

    Phase two, construction services - the Construction Manager becomes the single point of responsibility for performance of the construction of the project and shall publicly bid trade contracts.
