    DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

The Department of Environmental Protection announces a public meeting to which all persons are invited.

    DATE AND TIME: December 10, 2013, 1:30 p.m.

PLACE: City of Palm Bay City Council Chambers, 120 Malabar Road, Palm Bay, Florida 32907

GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: This is the second technical meeting following the adoption of Basin Management Action Plans for the Indian River Lagoon. The purpose of this meeting is to present the method for how aerial photography is translated into maps of seagrass distribution and present findings from seagrass transect data. Issues and concerns identified in the basin management plans that required further evaluation will be discussed and prioritized for further study. Basin Management Action Plans were adopted for the North and Central Indian River Lagoon and Banana River Lagoon in February 2013. These plans were developed in response to the adoption of Total Maximum Daily Loads for the Indian River Lagoon and contain strategies for reducing nutrient loadings into the lagoon. The Total Maximum Daily Loads were adopted in March 2009. These TMDLs specify reductions in the loadings of total nitrogen and total phosphorus to the Indian River Lagoon sufficient for recovery of deeper-water seagrass habitat.
