Notice of Florida Building Code Binding Interpretation

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT the Binding Interpretation Panel has issued a binding interpretation pursuant to Section 553.775, Florida Statutes, submitted by Raymond Masciani, on November 1, 2014. The following is a summary of the interpretation:

Question: Would a fire rated door be permitted in the rated wall assembly to interconnect the living spaces of separated dwelling units?

Answer: Yes, as per Section 104.11 Alternative materials, design and methods of construction and equipment, of the 2010 Florida Building Code, Building and consistent with the language in section 302.4.1.1, Fire-resistance-rated assembly, of the 2010 Florida Building Code, Residential and also consistent with Section 715, Opening Protectives, and Table 715.4, Fire Door and Fire Shutter Fire Protection Ratings, of the 2010 Florida Building Code, Building.
