    RULE NO.: RULE TITLE:

    6A-10.02413: Civic Literacy Competency

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: Requires students to take and pass a course and assessment to demonstrate civic literacy competency. Currently, to meet the civic literacy competency course requirement, Florida College System (FCS) institutions have only two course options, which are AMH X020 and POS X041. The purpose of this rule amendment is to update the current rule to add AMH X010, which was added as an additional course option in January 2024, to meet the civic literacy competency course requirement. Both CLEP History of the United States I and CLEP History of the United States II will also be added as additional options for students to meet the civic literacy competency assessment requirement. Additionally, technical changes have been made for purposes of clarity and consistency. All FCS institutions will be affected by the rule amendment. The effect of this amendment will require colleges to modify their policies, procedures, advising practices and catalogs regarding the additional new course option. FCS students will benefit from the addition of the course option as it will allow for more opportunities for them to complete the civic literacy competency.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Postsecondary courses that meet the civic literacy competency course requirement.
