The Department of Health Injury Program announces public meetings to which all persons are invited.

GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: The CDC grant guidance instructs States to (1) mobilize support and build partnerships by identifying, contacting and inviting potential key private, professional, voluntary and nonprofit injury prevention and control organizations, injury care providers, policymakers, consumers, payers, media, State and Federal agencies, surveillance, research and academic institutions, and others to become members of a new or existing State/territory-wide Injury Community Planning Group; (2) review surveillance data to help identify and prioritize injury and violence problems with the state; (3) review and identify evidence-based appropriate interventions; and (4) identify implementation partners for identified policies and interventions.
This FIPAC meets “in person” twice a year in a central location. The meeting isdays and meets the above grant requirements. During these days, the meeting will conduct three separate meetings in order to be cost effective. The meetings are: the policy committee meeting, the Senior Falls Prevention Coalition meeting and the FIPAC meeting with goal team breakout sessions. During the FIPAC portion of the meeting, groups break out into goal teams to work on the strategic planning and implementation of the 2009-2013 Florida Injury Prevention Strategic Plan, which is a major goal of the grant. The group addresses priorities based on injury surveillance data, recommends the effective use of resources and prevention strategies to reduce deaths and hospitalizations throughout Florida, makes funding recommendations, and provides input for successor plans. This important council includes representation from Florida’s injury prevention advocates, the Florida Department of Health, and other key state agencies.
