NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Florida Building Commission has issued an order disposing of the petition for declaratory statement filed by Lineaire Designs, LLC on November 05, 2018. The following is a summary of the agency's disposition of the petition: Petitioner requested an answer to the following questions, based upon the project described within its petition: 1. Is Section 1607.8.1 the applicable section of the Florida Building Code for the design of a glass handrail and guards assembly in an interior installation? 2. Since the project is located within the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, is Section 1618.4.6.3 the applicable section of the Florida Building Code for the design of a glass handrail and guards assembly in an interior installation? On February 19, 2019, the Commission provided the following answers: In response to Petitioner’s question 1, the answer is yes. However, in addition to meeting the design requirements of Section 1607.8.1, Florida Building Code, Building, 6th Edition (2017), the interior glazed handrails/guards in question must also meet the applicable requirements of chapter 24 of the Florida Building Code, Building, 6th Edition (2017). In response to Petitioner’s question 2, the answer is no. Section 1618.4.6.3, Florida Building Code, Building, 6th Edition (2017) pertains to wind resistance requirements and does not apply to the interior glazed handrails/guards in question.
