    DATE AND TIME: Thursday, April 26, 2018, 5:00 p.m. Open house format; 6:00 p.m. formal presentation; followed by a public comment period

    GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: FDOT, District One, is conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study to provide conceptual design and traffic engineering analysis for sidewalk enhancements along US 41 from 69th Avenue (Bay Drive) to 63rd Avenue W. and from 53rd Avenue W. to Cortez Road in Manatee County. The purpose of the study is to create a continuous pedestrian corridor within the city of Bradenton. The study also includes consideration for potential lighting as well as signal improvements for pedestrian safety. The study will meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other related federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.

    FDOT will present the Recommended ‘Build’ Alternative to construct new sidewalk along both sides of US 41 where there is currently no sidewalk or where existing sidewalk is not sufficient. The ‘No-Build’ Alternative will also be presented. This hearing is being conducted to give interested persons an opportunity to review the preferred alternatives under consideration and to express their views concerning the location, conceptual design, and social, economic, and environmental effects of the proposed improvements.

    Persons wishing to submit written statements, in place of or in addition to verbal statements, may do so at the hearing or by sending them to Amy Blair, P.E., FDOT District One, P.O. Box 1249, Bartow, FL 33831. All statements postmarked no later than May 7, 2018 will become a part of the public hearing record. All comments received by Monday, May 7, 2018 will become part of the public hearing record.

    Draft project documents are available for public review from Wednesday, April 4, 2018 through Monday, May 7, 2018 at the South Manatee Branch Library, located at 6081 26th Street W. in Bradenton, FL 34207 and FDOT, District One, located at 801 N. Broadway Avenue, Bartow, FL 33830.

    The hearing is developed in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related statutes. Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status. The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by FDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. §327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 14, 2016 and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and FDOT.
