- NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on March 16, 2010, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, received a petition for a temporary variance from the portion of the Martin County manatee protection Rule 68C-22.024, Florida Administrative Code, that establishes a Slow Speed boat speed zone west of the Intracoastal Waterway channel and immediately north of the Jensen Beach Causeway. The petition was submitted on behalf of the Treasure Coast Boat Racing Association, and seeks authorization for the applicant to hold a powerboat racing event between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., April 24-25, 2010. Races would involve hydroplane and Jersey skiffs style vessels of varying size classes between 13.5 and 26.5 feet in length. Multiple time trials, heats, and finals would be run each day over an approximately 6,600-foot oval course. Boat speeds would exceed 100 miles per hour. Comments regarding the petition will be accepted for no less than 14 days from the date of publication of this notice.
