    Lakeland Florida, South Florida Avenue (SR 27) Corridor Study

    South Florida Avenue (State Road 37) Corridor Study

    Bartow, FL – At the request of the City of Lakeland, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One, in partnership with the Central Florida Regional Planning Council (CFRPC) and the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council (TCRPC), will be studying and developing ways to improve mobility, safety, quality of life, and economic vitality along the South Florida Avenue (SR 37) corridor between Ariana Street and Pine Street in Lakeland. A Master Plan will be developed through community engagement with coordination from the City of Lakeland, Polk County Transportation Planning Organization, Lakeland Downtown Development Authority, the Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency, and the Lake Morton and Dixieland Neighborhood Associations as well as other community partners.

    A public Collaborative Vision and Design Workshop for the 1.4 mile segment of the South Florida Avenue Corridor will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, FL, 33801.     Following the workshop, a design studio will be open to the public to provide input for the project team to develop ideas and propose solutions based on information received. The design studio will be located at the Waller Center, 1065 South Florida Ave., Suite #2, Lakeland FL 33803 and will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15 through May, 20, 2016 (Studio will close at 4 p.m. on May 20). A Work-in-Progress presentation will be delivered to the community at 6:00 p.m. on May 20 at the Polk Museum of Art Theater, 800 E Palmetto St, Lakeland, FL 33801. The Master Plan for the corridor will be complete by early 2017.
