GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED:

    Financial Management No.: 420633-3-32-01

Project Description: US 17 from south of 9th Street to north of 3rd Street in Zolfo Springs, Florida.

The project information meeting is held to give interested people the opportunity to express their views about the proposed improvements and the social, economic and environmental effects to US 17 from south of 9th Street to north of 3rd Street, a distance of approximately 1.1 miles. The project involves the realignment of the existing US 17 one block east along the abandoned railroad right-of-way and Oak Street through Zolfo Springs, Hardee County. The new roadway will consist of a concrete roadway with curb and gutter, four-foot bike lanes, sidewalks, and a 54-foot raised median that will separate two northbound and two southbound traffic lanes. Improvements include a new underground drainage system and two stormwater ponds to manage water running off of the roadway. A new traffic signal will be installed along the new alignment at the 6th Street (SR 66) intersection. The existing US 17 will be turned over to the Town of Zolfo Springs and renamed Main Street.

Additional right-of-way is required to produce this project. FDOT carries out a right-of-way acquisition and relocation program in accordance with Section 339.09, Florida Statues, and the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Act of 1970 as amended. The project team has identified potential encroachments on wetlands and floodplains, and these areas may be given special consideration under Executive Orders 11990 and 11988, Protection of Wetlands and Floodplain Management, respectively. Design is currently 60% complete. Right-of-way for the project is funded in the current FDOT Five-Year Work Program in Fiscal Years 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 and construction is funded in Fiscal Year 2016/2017.
