Division of Hotels and RestaurantsNOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on May 05, 2006, The Bureau of Elevator Safety, it issued three Orders Granting Variance Requests in response to a petitions filed on February 13, 2006 and advertised in the F.A.W. Vol. 32, No. 12, by Jim Childers of Otis Elevator regarding Meridian at One North Ocean Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 in Boca Raton (VW 2006-037 through 039). The petitions sought waivers from Rules 2.1.1.1.2, 2.1.1.3, 2.7.6, 2.20.1, and 2.20.9 of ASME A17.1, 2000 Edition, as adopted by Chapter 3001.2, 2004 Florida Building Code. The petitioner requested to not have a machine room and to use coated steel belts in lieu of steel cables suspending the car. The petitions were granted as it was demonstrated that this new technology provided an equivalent or greater level of safety.
