SUMMARY: The department is reopening the Student Performance Standards rule in order to make revisions intended to promote alignment and clarity of the B.E.S.T. In order to develop grades 9-12 Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Honors, Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Honors, Pre-Calculus Honors, Geometry, Geometry Honors, and other 9-12 courses deemed necessary by the department, the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics require revisions to include content, clarifications and examples.

SUMMARY OF STATEMENT OF ESTIMATED REGULATORY COSTS AND LEGISLATIVE RATIFICATION:

The Agency has determined that this will not have an adverse impact on small business or likely increase directly or indirectly regulatory costs in excess of $200,000 in the aggregate within one year after the implementation of the rule. A SERC has not been prepared by the Agency.

The Agency has determined that the proposed rule is not expected to require legislative ratification based on the statement of estimated regulatory costs or if no SERC is required, the information expressly relied upon and described herein: Any adverse impact or regulatory cost of this proposed rule is not expected to exceed any of the economic criteria set forth in Section 120.541(2)(a), F.S. and will not require legislative ratification. This determination is based upon the agency’s experience when it revised educational standards in the past.

Any person who wishes to provide information regarding a statement of estimated regulatory costs, or provide a proposal for a lower cost regulatory alternative must do so in writing within 21 days of this notice.
