PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The rule will establish a voluntary certification program for firefighters who desire to perform the duties of a safety officer. The safety officer is the person who is qualified to manage different elements of a fire department safety and health program. This program is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer, 2015 edition.
