Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail program
The Florida Department of Transportation is soliciting new REQUESTS FOR FUNDING Regional and Individual Trail projects through the Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail program for inclusion in the work program development cycle. Projects programmed this cycle will be funded as early as Fiscal Years 2026/2027.
SUN Trail program authorization is under Section 339.81, Florida Statutes. Project phases may include feasibility, preliminary and environmental planning; design; new construction, reconstruction or resurfacing of trail surfaces or bridges. Eligible applicants include all municipal, county, state, federal, tribal governments, Metropolitan Planning Organizations or other public land agencies with responsibility for oversight of transportation/recreational trails.
To receive funding consideration governmental entities must submit REQUESTS FOR FUNDING for each eligible Regional or Individual Trail project with applicable information, including the prioritization, and required signatures beginning October 1, 2020 and no later than 3:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, December 10, 2020. Proposals not meeting the Eligibility Criteria, and ineligible projects and phases will not receive funding consideration.
