    Board of Professional Engineers

    RULE NO.:RULE TITLE:

61G15-20.007Educational Requirements for Applicants without EAC/ABET Accredited Engineering Degrees

The Board of Professional Engineers hereby gives notice: of the issuance of an Order regarding the Petition for Variance or Waiver, filed on May 13, 2022, by Jason Charalambides. The Notice of Petition for Variance or Waiver was published in Vol. 48, No. 105, of the May 31, 2022, Florida Administrative Register. Petitioner sought a variance from or a waiver of subsection 61G15-20.007(2), F.A.C., which provides a means for applicants for licensure who do not have the requisite engineering education to establish educational equivalency to an approved educational degree. One of the provisions of the Rule, subsection (2), allows for the use of the “College Level Equivalency Program” (CLEP) examination process to satisfy certain educational deficiencies. Petitioner requested that the Board waive this requirement of the rule and accept the Petitioner’s passing DSST exams, without any explanation, documentation, details, etc., to satisfy the Natural Science credit deficiency in Petitioners undergraduate education. The Board considered the instant Petition at a duly noticed public meeting held on June 9, 2022. The Board’s Order, filed on June 27, 2022, DENIED the Petition for Variance and Waiver. The board finds that the Petitioner has failed to meet the purpose of the underlying statues by other means, and has failed to demonstrate application of the rule to Petitioner would create an undue hardship or violate principles of fairness, as specified in the Order.

A copy of the Order or additional information may be obtained by contacting: Zana Raybon, Executive Director, Board of Professional Engineers, 2400 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32308, or telephone: (850)521-0500, or by email: zraybon@fbpe.org.
