PURPOSE AND EFFECT: To update rule language as required by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the use and transportation of radioactive materials and the use of radiation from radioactive materials; to add exemptions for the use of certain radioactive materials; to make corresponding changes to source material general licenses; to remove the requirement that individual monitoring dosimeters be processed by an accredited National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program processor provided they are capable of detecting high energy photons in the normal and accident dose ranges for industrial radiography, well logging, and large irradiators; to remove language requiring that reports of medical events and embryo/fetus overexposure include social security numbers; to update training requirements for the operational safe use of remote afterloader units, teletherapy units and gamma stereotactic radiosurgery units; to clarify language regarding the radiopharmaceutical production and distribution of Positive Emission Tomography (PET) isotopes; and to require that manufacturers and distributors of sealed sources or devices containing sealed sources register with the department.

SUBJECT AREA TO BE ADDRESSED: Training in the safe handling radioactive material devices; transportation of radioactive material; licensing requirements; registration of sealed sources; source material general licenses; and updating reports submitted to the department.
