The Polk County Roads & Drainage Division is hosting a Public Information Meeting to present alternate roadway alignments and design concepts for the proposed widening of County Road (CR) 557 from north of the CSX railroad near US 17/92 in Lake Alfred to south of the Interstate 4 (I-4) interchange, a distance of about 6 miles. The purpose of this meeting is to seek public (community) input on the widening of the existing two-lane facility to a four-lane divided roadway, to include intersection improvements and bicycle and pedestrian features within the study corridor. Polk County sent notices to owners of properties located within 500 feet of the roadway corridor or whose properties are solely accessed by CR 557. Anyone can attend this open house style meeting. After opening remarks and a brief project presentation, attendees can view related exhibits and ask questions of project staff. A continuous-loop project video can also be watched during the remainder of the meeting. Residents and property owners are encouraged to submit written comments by mail or online at the County website (www.polk-county.net). A two-week public comment period ends on November 5, 2019. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, this meeting will be accessible to the disabled. Persons needing special accommodations or an interpreter to participate in this proceeding should contact the Polk County Communications Office no later than four days prior to the meeting at (863) 534-6090, TDD (863) 534-7777 or 1-800-955-8771, Voice Impaired 1-800-955-8770 via Florida Relay Service.
