Summary

The purpose of the proposed rule changes is to maintain consistency among state and federal lists of protected species. The Panama City crayfish was listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act in January 2022. Rule 68A-27.0012, F.A.C., states that if a species is federally listed, it will “be listed by the Commission as a Florida Endangered and Threatened Species by virtue of the federal designation.” The proposed rule will remove the Panama City crayfish as a species of special concern under Rule 68A-27.005, F.A.C., and will add the species as a Federally-designated Threatened Species under Rule 68A-27.003, F.A.C. The proposed final rule also will update the taxonomy of the federally listed shinyrayed pocketbook, Choctaw bean, round ebonyshell, and eastern indigo snake for consistency with the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife.
