Summary

Section 1012.98, F.S. – School Community Professional Development Act, establishes the requirement for a coordinated system of professional development statewide and authorizes the Department of Education to adopt a set of professional development standards, which are used to evaluate the quality of district professional development systems. The Professional Development System Evaluation Protocol Standards are a set of 65 standards containing an overall philosophy and approach to professional learning that is based on and drawn from requirements for professional development contained in Section 1012.98, F.S., as well as the National Staff Development Council’s definition of professional learning and supporting research. The proposed rule revision incorporates this set of Standards into the requirements for district professional development systems.
