The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will conduct a public hearing concerning proposed improvements to State Road (S.R.) 63 (U.S. 27/North Monroe Street). The hearing will be held Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. EST at the City Commission Chambers, 300 South Adams Street, Tallahassee. The hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a formal presentation at 6 p.m., followed by a public comment period. Improvements include constructing raised medians on S.R. 63 (U.S. 27/North Monroe Street) to serve as pedestrian refuge areas, the addition of a signalized pedestrian crossing approximately midway between Tharpe Street and 7th Avenue, and placement of new signs and pavement markings. Additional right-of-way will be required for the reconstruction of the existing sidewalks and a mast arm signal. The adjacent right-of-way is owned by the City of Tallahassee. The City has agreed to donate the right-of-way necessary to construct the signal equipment within FDOT right-of-way. The project is currently scheduled for construction spring 2016.
