Financial Project Identification (FPID) No.: 991900-3 The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a public hearing about proposed plans to improve safety on Gulf Atlantic Highway (State Road (S.R.) 44) between Main Street (U.S. 301) and Legion Avenue. The proposed improvement consists of two phases of construction, interim works and long-term improvements. The interim work consists of the installation of “Quick-Curb” with delineator posts east of the Main Street intersection. This work is anticipated to take place in late 2019/early 2020. The proposed long-term improvements involve the construction of an additional westbound left turn lane at the Main Street intersection and construction of a concrete median from Main Street to west of Legion Avenue, with a bi-directional opening at the Wildwood Townehomes area. This type of median opening allows left turns from Gulf Atlantic Highway into the driveways, but will only allow right turns out of those driveways. Construction of the long-term improvements is expected to begin in early 2022 as part of a resurfacing project. The public hearing will be Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at the Wildwood Community Center – Jefferson Room, 6500 Powell Rd., Wildwood, FL 34785. The hearing will begin as an informational open house at 5 p.m. where displays and other project information will be available for review. Staff also will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. A presentation will begin at 6 p.m., followed by public comments. A court reporter will be present to record proceedings, and assist with comments, as part of the project record. Written comments can be submitted at the hearing, sent by mail to Dave Mixon, Florida Department of Transportation, 719 S. Woodland Boulevard M.S. 562, DeLand, FL 32720; or emailed to Dave.Mixon@dot.state.fl.us no later than Monday, April 8, 2019. All written and oral comments will become part of the project’s public record.
