The purpose of these rule amendments is to extend Florida’s current regulations for permit, Florida Pompano, and African pompano into federal waters, where they are currently unregulated. The rule amendments would also separate the management strategies for permit and pompano resulting in new size and bag limits for each species. The rule amendments would reduce the commercial permit fishery. In addition, Florida would be split into two management areas for permit, with more restrictive regulations in the southern management zone, including a closed season.
