: This is the third technical meeting following the adoption of Basin Management Action Plans for the Indian River Lagoon. This is the annual meeting to present a summary of accomplishments made during the first year of Basin Management Action Plan implementation. The meeting will have two sessions. The morning session is the annual meeting. A presentation will be given of the progress made over the past year in implementing the Basin Management Action Plans and an update of the 2011 seagrass data. The afternoon session will be technical presentations. These will include a presentation by Dr. Ming Ye of a modeling approach that can be used to estimate the impact of septic systems on water quality and a presentation by Dr. Marty Wanielista on innovative stormwater management approaches. The Basin Management Action Plans were adopted for the North and Central Indian River Lagoon and Banana River Lagoon in February 2013. These plans were developed in response to the adoption of Total Maximum Daily Loads for the Indian River Lagoon and contain strategies for reducing nutrient loadings into the lagoon. The Total Maximum Daily Loads were adopted in March 2009. These TMDLs specify reductions in the loadings of total nitrogen and total phosphorus to the Indian River Lagoon sufficient for recovery of deeper-water seagrass habitat.
