The department is reopening the Student Performance Standards rule in order to make revisions intended to promote alignment and clarity of the B.E.S.T. Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics with courses, instruction, instructional materials and standardized, statewide assessments. Revisions to the K-12 B.E.S.T. Standards for English Language Arts are intended to provide additional clarity for certain K-12 benchmarks. Revisions to the 9-12 B.E.ST. Standards for Mathematics are intended to provide instructional guidance for certain benchmarks so that a given benchmark may be appropriate for multiple courses. In order to develop grades 9-12 Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Honors, Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Honors, Pre-Calculus Honors, Geometry, Geometry Honors, and other 9-12 courses deemed necessary by the department, the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics require revisions to include content, clarifications and examples.
