Purpose

The Kissimmee River Restoration Project (Restoration Project) is a joint partnership between the District and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The project will restore over 40 square miles of river/floodplain ecosystem including 44 miles of meandering river channel and 25,000 acres of wetlands. An integral component of the restoration is the protection from allocation of water needed for fish and wildlife. The water identified for the natural system will be protected through a water reservation as authorized by Florida law.
