Purpose

To implement the amendments to Section 100.371, Florida Statutes, in Chapter 2008-95, Laws of Florida. The amendments altered the requirements relating to the recording by the supervisors of elections and the determination by the Secretary of State regarding verified signatures on citizen constitutional initiative petition forms. The statutory amendments deleted the requirement that verified signatures be recorded in the statewide voter registration system. The revised rule adopts a paper certification system for use by the supervisors of elections in reporting signature verifications to the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State then will determine whether the requisite number of signatures has been verified.
