Summary


The proposed reclassification of the Choctawhatchee Bay shellfish harvesting area will decrease the size of the conditionally approved Central Section area by 2,426 acres, from 38,035 acres to 35,609 acres, decrease the size of the conditionally approved Eastern Section area by 216 acres, from 14,037 acres to 13,821 acres, and increase the size of the prohibited area by 4,049 acres, from 20,909 acres to 24,958 acres. The current management of the Choctawhatchee Bay shellfish harvesting area is based on local rainfall and river discharge. Proposed management of the Choctawhatchee Bay shellfish harvesting area is based on local rainfall or river stage. The average closure frequency of Choctawhatchee Bay Conditionally Approved Central or Eastern is not expected to increase or decrease. A sanitary survey has been conducted that evaluated current information on pollution sources and bacteriological water quality, and recommends reclassification of the Choctawhatchee Bay shellfish harvesting area. This amendment places descriptions, references to shellfish harvesting area map numbers and operating criteria for the Choctawhatchee Bay shellfish harvesting area #06 in the document Shellfish Harvesting Area Classification Boundaries and Management Plans. These documents are hereby incorporated in subsection 5L-1.003(1), F.A.C. Additionally, this amendment provides illustrations of the Choctawhatchee Bay shellfish harvesting area classification boundaries in the shellfish harvesting area map #06.
