Capitol Preferred Insurance Company, Inc. has requested an 18.8% overall increase for new and renewal homeowners policies, effective October 1, 2007; and a 21.5% overall increase for new and renewal dwelling fire insurance policies, effective October 1, 2007. The rate increases are not uniform and some areas are subject to higher rate increases. Florida law allows the Office of Insurance Regulation to hold a public hearing for any purpose within the scope of the Insurance Code deemed to be necessary.
