The intent of these projects is to widen 5.5 miles of U.S. 231 from four to six lanes with bike lanes, sidewalks, and drainage improvements. Approximately 1.6 miles of Segment 7, from U.S. 98 (15th Street) to north of State Road (S.R.) 368 (23rd Street), includes adding flyover ramps on U.S. 98 at the intersection of U.S. 231 and on S.R. 77 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard) over U.S. 231. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be widened from four to six lanes from East 23rd Street to 15th Street. It will bridge over U.S. 231 and the Bay Line Railroad. Segment 7 is funded for right-of-way acquisition and construction. Bids for construction will be received fall 2023. Approximately 3.9 miles of Segment 8, from north of 23rd Street to north of Pipeline Road, include features such as widening S.R. 389 (East Avenue) from Sherman Avenue to Baldwin Road and Transmitter Road from C Street to Brooke Lane from two to four lanes. Additionally, a new six lane bridge will be built over Mill Bayou. Segment 8 is funded for right-of-way acquisition. However, construction is not funded in the current FDOT Five-Year Work Program for Segment 8. Additional right-of-way will be required. During the informal portion of the hearing, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) representatives will be available to discuss the projects, answer questions, and receive your comments. A court reporter will also be available to receive your comments. During the formal portion of the hearing, FDOT will make a presentation which will be followed by public comments.
