Subject
The US 41 & SR/CR 951 Project Development & Environment (PD&E) study reevaluation. This project is in coordination with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The project area for the reevaluation is approximately one-quarter mile in each direction on US 41 & SR/CR 951, a distance of about 1.0 miles.
This public hearing gives the public an opportunity to provide input on the type of improvements to be designed and constructed to make the intersection of US 41 & SR/CR 951 most efficient.
FDOT completed a PD&E study in 2008 that included this intersection and has an approved at-grade alternative. The county re-evaluated the study about the intersection and determined that a grade-separated overpass (GSO) is the preferred alternative. Upon approval of the ultimate GSO by the Federal Highway Administration, Phase I of the GSO design, which is an at-grade intersection, will move forward.
Construction for the intersection improvements is currently programmed in the county’s Five Year Work Program and expected to begin in fiscal year 2013/14. Construction will be for the at-grade improvements of the ultimate GSO. The grade-separated overpass will be a future option when funding becomes available and consensus of the design and permitting is achieved. Only the at-grade alternatives are under consideration at this time.
