The Upper Ocklawaha Basin Working Group will hold a meeting on October 2 in Leesburg at the Leesburg Community Building. This meeting is open to the public. The Upper Ocklawaha Basin Working Group was formed to provide a forum for stakeholders to discuss issues related to the basin’s nutrient Total Maximum Daily Loads for the Harris Chain of Lakes, Palatlakaha River, and Lake Apopka. The Upper Ocklawaha Basin Management Action Plan was adopted in 2007 to address nutrient problems in the previously listed waterbodies. This is the second five year iteration of the Upper Ocklawaha Basin Management Action Plan. Presentations will be given at this meeting that cover the status of water quality in the Harris Chain of Lakes, Lake Apopka, and the Palatlakaha River and the next five year management plan strategy to restore water quality.
