Summary

Section 373.042, F.S., directs the water management districts to establish minimum flows and levels (“MFLs”) for priority water bodies within its jurisdiction. The current MFL priority water body list provides for adoption of a minimum flow and level for Florida Bay in 2006. The technical documentation in support of the proposed rules has been reviewed by an independent scientific peer review panel, as well as stakeholders and the public in a series of workshops. The proposed rule amendments will implement consumptive use permit and water shortage management rules and a prevention strategy. The proposed rule amendments would also provide other related projects with criteria for consideration in water resource planning.
