No comments were received in response to the petition. The Final Order on the Petition for Variance denies the Petitioner a variance from Rule 3.10.3 and 3.10.4(q), ASME A17.3, as adopted by Rule 61C-5.001(1)(a), Florida Administrative Code because the Petitioner has not demonstrated that the purpose of the statute underlying the rule will be met or that Petitioner would suffer a substantial hardship if required to comply with this rule. The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is planning to widen State Road 408 (Spessard L. Holland Expressway) from east of State Road SR 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay) to east of Alafaya Trail. This project will include new travel lanes and proposed sound walls parallel to SR 408 along sections of the project area. The meeting will be an open-house format where the public will be able to obtain project information and speak with members of the project team.
The Central Florida Expressway Authority performs noise studies during the design phase of capacity improvement projects. During the design phase for this project, a noise analysis was conducted and locations were identified where a sound wall would be a viable measure to reduce traffic noise. The Central Florida Expressway Authority is now trying to determine the level of support from nearby property owners and residents for the construction of these sound walls.
